Roots of Motive Power
Support - The Bottom Line

Roots Volunteers
Roots Volunteers

Roots of Motive Power has relied heavily on support from the local community and, conversely, has added much to community events and overall visitor appeal. The volunteers feel a genuine sense of pride in the community and its timber heritage. Many members, in fact, are directly involved in logging, sawmilling, forestry, and trucking. By preserving and displaying the tools of the past, they present a positive and hopeful image of the timber community today.

Just as steam donkeys require firewood to generate steam, this organization needs money to move forward. Like many non-profit volunteer organizations, there has always been an imbalance between monetary need and receipt. In the long run the Board is confident that Roots will be mostly, if not completely, self supporting. However, to reach that point will require money - a great deal of money. Roots needs a commitment from you, the service clubs, the community, the timber industry and individuals to move toward that goal.

Creative Alternatives

Aside from outright gifts of cash Roots offers a few creative alternatives:

Matching Grant, Industry
Your company pledges to match dollar for dollar, funds raised by a Roots promotional (you set the ceiling). Not only will Roots work feverishly to raise money, the activity promotes your company name. Excellent public relations.

Matching Grant, Individual
Same as above, but with a lower profile if you wish.

Stocks and Securities
An easy and often less painful way to endow. Transfer stock from your company or other publically held companies to Roots.

Monthly Endowment
Have $25, $50, $100 or more automatically transferred from your account to Roots, one of the marvels of modern banking. Roots provides an annual statement for tax purposes.

Posthumous Gift
Mention Roots in your will by leaving cash, securities or other property to a worthy cause.

Memorial Endowment
Establish an ongoing fund for specific projects in the name of a family member.

Artifact Donation
We welcome donations of any timber-related materials including railroad, logging, and sawmill machinery, technical literature, company records, photographs. The Roots curator will contact you further regarding our collections policy, our needs and to evaluate any materials. Due to limited space and the cost of long-term preservation, all materials offered for donation will be evaluated prior to accession into the collection.

In-Kind Donation
Useful services and materials are always gratefully received. With proper documentation in-kind donations are tax deductible.
