c1910 Orten & Steinbrenner Steam Winch

This steam winch was built about 1910 and was typically used for loading and unloading cargo from ships. Not Click to enlargemuch more is known about this particular winch other than it was found in Fort Bragg in a blackberry patch.

It was brought to Roots of Motive Power and has been restored to its present condition. It has been painted different colors to indicate:

(1) the path the steam takes through the engine
(2) the method of power transfer from the steam to the cable drum
(3) the braking system
