1959 Kenworth Off-highway Truck #28

Click to enlargeThe closure of Pacific Lumber Company's Yager Creek Camp in March 2002 brought an end to the camp where decades of logging legends were created. First via the company railroad, then by off-highway truck, the finest old growth redwood logs in the world passed through Yager, Carlotta, Alton, and into the company town and sawmill at Scotia.

With company logging ended and the Yager Camp property due to be leased to a local contractor, Pacific Lumber Co. offered several interesting logging artifacts to Roots of Motive Power. Included in the donation was PALCO off-highway truck #28, a 1959 Kenworth, several boxes of blocks, and a triple-drum diesel powered loading machine. Greg Simpson of Ukiah donated a dump truck and flatbed equipment trailer to haul most of the smaller pieces. Truck #28 was hauled by Cliff Walker Logging of Willits. We would like to thank Jim Hartman and Dan Callahan of Pacific Lumber Company for their help in arranging the donation to the Roots collection and their help in loading and Greg Simpson and Cliff Walker for the donation of the trucking of the artifacts to Willits.
