The Bucyrus-Erie 22B shovel was one of the most popular and versatile track cranes produced by the company. The 22B came equipped with the standard dipper stick shovel, dragline, dragshovel, clamshell bucket, crane boom, or pile driver. The shovel had a ¾ cubic yard bucket capacity and was offered with a variety of gasoline and diesel power options, this machine being equipped with a Caterpillar D-6 diesel engine with gasoline starting motor.

This 22B shovel was purchased second hand in Portland, Oregon by Clyde Williams of Dos Rios, California for use in his rock pit operation. It was later acquired by the Diamond H Ranch for use at their Coal Mine rock pit near Covelo. The shovel was purchased by Chris Baldo of Willits, California in May 2000 for restoration and historical display.

Bucyrus International still exists in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, having absorbed its last shovel competitor, the Marion Power Shovel Company, in 1997. Dating back to the 1860’s, the heritage of the two manufacturers of excavating machinery and the companies they acquired along the way is a chronicle of American industrial technology; the Bucyrus Steam Shovel and Dredge Company, the Vulcan Steam Shovel Company, the Ball Engine Company, the Erie Steam Shovel Company, the Marion Steam Shovel Company, the Osgood Dredge Company. A total of over 660 years of excavating machinery heritage!
