Roots of Motive Power

Work Days

Overview

Roots work days are generally held on the first and third Sundays of each month from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM. When a work day falls on a three-day weekend, the work day is on that Saturday rather than Sunday. For specific information about a given work day or to confirm the schedule please email Roots . The public is welcome to tour the collection at no charge during work days.

Location

The Roots of Motive Power collection and the Railroad History Project Exhibition and Learning Center are located in Willits, California, 140 miles north of San Francisco and just east of Highway 101. The Exhibition and Learning Center adjoins the Mendocino County Museum at 400 East Commercial St. Part of the Roots of Motive Power collection is housed in the Exhibition and Learning Center; most of the collection is at the Roots facility, approximately 100 yards northeast of the museum.

When going North on Highway 101 in Willits, go one-half mile north of Highway 20 and turn East on Commercial Street.

Proceed approximately one-half mile.

Roots of Motive Power is on the left, just past the Mendocino County Museum.
